Author's POV
The officer " as you know it's late and no orphanage will be open . We don't have any other facility So , for now some of the officer will take care of them and in the morning we will take them to the orphanage till we found their family " said .
Hearing the officer's reply Meera turned towards Ekaksh and said " can we talk " Ekaksh nodded and they both went into a corner . When Ekaksh asks " do you want to say something " Meera replies " they are saying that some of their officers will take care of the babies but I don't know why but I can't trust them . Ekaksh nodded agreeing with her and said " let me talk with the officer "
Ekaksh walked back to the officer and said Ekaksh: "Excuse me, officer. I have a concern regarding the arrangement you mentioned."
The officer looked at Ekaksh, raising his eyebrows.
Officer: "What is it, sir?"
Ekaksh: "I understand that your officers are willing to take care of the babies for now, but my friend Meera and I have reservations about it."
Officer: "I assure you, our officers are highly trained and responsible. The babies will be in good hands."
Ekaksh: "We understand that, but we still feel uneasy. These babies have already been through a lot, and we fear that they may feel unsafe and uncomfortable with strangers."
Officer: "What do you propose then?"
Ekaksh: "We would like to take care of the babies ourselves for the night."
The officer looked surprised at the suggestion.
Officer: "I'm sorry, but I can't just give you the responsibility of two babies. You are neither their relatives nor authorized caregivers. It would be irresponsible of me to release them into your care just like that."
Ekaksh and Meera exchanged worried glances, knowing that the officer was being sensible. They had to think of a way to convince him.
Ekaksh: "We understand your concern, but we assure you that we're capable and responsible individuals. We just want to make sure the babies are safe and comfortable for the night."
Officer: "I'm afraid I can't go against our policy. The babies have to stay in official custody until they can be transferred to the orphanage tomorrow."
Ekaksh: I'm giving you my word , I'll be responsible for everything.
Officer: "since you're a known and trustworthy I'm giving you the responsibility, Are you two sure about this? Taking care of two babies overnight is a big responsibility".
Ekaksh and Meera exchanged a glance before nodding confidently.
Ekaksh: "We're prepared to take on the responsibility."
Officer: "Very well, then. The babies are in your care for the night. You have to come to the station, We'll follow up in the morning to the orphanage."
After the officer left ekaksh turned towards Meera and asked "what are we gonna do now " " do you live with your family or someone " Meera asked. " I live alone and can't take both the babies with me what if I'm unable to take care of them alone " Ekaksh replied while shaking his head lightly. When Meera said " I also can't take them with me because I live with my family they will bombard me with questions and it can be a little difficult tk " " but we have taken theirs responsibility " Ekaksh replied with a sigh.
Suddenly Meera exclaimed " I have a friend who lives nearby , We can go to her house" .
Ekaksh: are you sure , won't she deny.
Meera: she won't , I know her .
Ekaksh: okay then let's go.
After taking the babies both Meera and Ekaksh left the hospital building and slipped in their car . Meera was cradling the baby girl and Ekaksh was cradling the baby boy .
They both hold them close to their chest .The baby whimpered softly, their tiny body trembling slightly with fear and shock. Meera gently rocked the baby back and forth, murmuring soothing words as she held them.
Once they reached the house, they were greeted by pranvi , who looked a little surprised but offered a warm smile as she ushered them inside.
As soon as they entered the house, Meera's friend, who had been waiting eagerly to hear the story behind the two babies, couldn't contain her curiosity.
"So, what's the deal with the babies? Where did you find them?" Pranvi asked, her eyes wide with interest.
Meera looked at the babies, who were now settling in a pile of soft pillow properly to ensure their safety that they had prepared for them. She took a deep breath before beginning to recount the events of the evening.
Meera and Ekaksh were in the midst of setting up the sleeping arrangements for the babies when Meera's friend, Pranvi, came over with a concerned expression on her face.
"Hey, guys, there's something important you should know," she said, her voice serious.
Meera looked up, slightly annoyed at the interruption. "What is it, Pranvi?"
Pranvi bit her lip, looking hesitant. "Well, we might have forgotten something important for the babies."
Ekaksh suddenly looked startled as he realized something.
Ekaksh: "Wait a second, we don't have any baby essentials for the babies. We will need at least the basic things for them for the night."
Meera looked equally alarmed and nodded in agreement.
Meera: "You're right. We need infant formula, baby diapers, wipes, baby bottles, and perhaps even some clothes."
Ekaksh: " okay , you guys take care of the baby I'll go and get these things from a nearby store.
Both Meera and Pranvi nodded.
Ekaksh quickly rushed out of the house to get them. Meera stayed behind, trying her best to soothe the babies who were starting to get restless.
It wasn't long before Ekaksh returned, his arms laden with bags filled with diapers, formula, bottles, and other necessities. They both breathed a sigh of relief knowing that the babies had what they needed for the night.
After they made sure the babies had everything they needed, Meera looked at Ekaksh, who was starting to look exhausted from the events of the day.
"You know, you don't have to head home if you're tired," she said, her voice soft. "You're more than welcome to stay the night. I'm sure Pranvi won't mind."
Ekaksh's expression softened, and he smiled slightly.
"I appreciate the offer, but I think it's best if I go home," he said. "I need to get a good night's sleep so I can come back in the morning, fresh and ready to help you with the babies."
Meera nodded in understanding .
"Okay," she said, trying to keep her voice steady. "Take care, Ekaksh. I'll see you in the morning."
Ekaksh gave her a tired smile and nodded.
"Yeah, you too, I'll come back in the morning so we can take the babies to the orphanage" he said. "Goodnight, Meera."
Meera watched as Ekaksh walked out the door, closing it quietly behind him. She let out a sigh, feeling a wave of fatigue wash over her. It had been a long day, and she was exhausted.
But she knew she had no time to rest. The babies needed her attention for the entire night.
Next morning
Meera was startled awake by the soft coos and cries of the babies. She slowly opened her eyes, taking in her surroundings. It took a moment for her to remember the events of the previous day, and when she did, she let out a tired sigh.
The sun was just starting to rise, casting a warm glow through the windows. Meera sat up and rubbed her eyes, wondering how long she had slept for.
Meera looked over at the babies . They were still quietly fussing, no doubt hungry and cranky from the unfamiliar surroundings.
She took a deep breath and carefully lifting the babies out into her arms.
"Good morning, you two," she whispered, rocking them gently in her arms. "Looks like it's time for breakfast."
After some time Ekaksh arrives at pranvi 's house.
Ekaksh knocked on the door of Pranvi's house, and it was soon answered by the petite figure of Pranvi herself. She stepped aside to allow him in, giving him a worried look.
"Hey," she said, her voice laced with concern. "Where's Meera? And the babies?"
Pranvi: " she just fed the babies and now trying to burb them " .
Soon Meera came and both of them carried the babies to the car .
Meera's POV
As I and Ekaksh packed the babies into the car, I felt a pang of sadness in my chest. I had grown attached to the little bundles of joy over the past few hours, and the thought of leaving them at the orphanage was unexpectedly difficult.
I glanced over at Ekaksh, who seemed focused on the road ahead. I knew we had no choice but to drop them off, as we were not equipped to care for them long-term. But that didn't make the decision any easier.
Ekaksh 's POV
As I pulled my car up in front of the orphanage, parking it in a nearby space. I took a deep breath and looked over at the building, I was feeling a pang of guilt in my stomach. I knew that we were doing the right thing by taking the babies to a place where they would be cared for, but it was difficult to ignore the nagging feeling that we were abandoning them.
I saw Meera waiting outside with the babies in their carriers. I got out of the car and walked over to her, concern etched on my face.
"Hey," I said, trying to keep my voice neutral. "Ready to drop them off?" Meera nodded still in the haze of her emotions.
As they entered the orphanage, they were greeted by a kind-looking lady who introduced herself as the caretaker. She led them into a small room where they could leave the babies for the time being, and as they laid the babies in the waiting crib, Meera felt a pang of sadness in her heart. She looked over at Ekaksh, who was trying hard to keep a stoic expression, but she could see the sadness in his eyes as well.
The lady left them with the babies, closing the door behind her. As soon as she was out of sight, Meera let out a soft sigh and sank down into a nearby chair.
Ekaksh looked at her, noticing the sadness etched on her face. He walked over and sat down beside her, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder.
For a while, the room was filled with silence as they both sat there, their thoughts consumed with the babies they had just left behind.
Finally, Meera broke the silence, speaking in a soft, sad voice.
"Why does it feel like we're abandoning them?"
"We're not abandoning them," Ekaksh replied, his voice firm but gentle. "We're giving them a chance at a better life. We can't take care of them ourselves, and we can't just keep them forever."
Meera nodded, taking a deep breath to steady herself. She knew he was right, but it didn't make the guilt or the sadness any easier to carry.
Ekaksh kept his arm around her, still comforting her. "They'll be okay," he said, trying to reassure her. "The orphanage will take good care of them until they find a new family or we can come daily to meet them ". Meera eyes feel content hearing it and said " really, we'll be coming to meet them". Ekaksh nodded with a small smile on his face and they both left from there.
